You need to help by making sure that your electric fence is a secure barrier and not easily penetrated.

To provide effective protection the voltage should remain as designed, and the fence should not be flexible such that it can be lifted. Consider these seven factors:

1. Poor earthing quality reduces the protection voltage. For best results earth every 30m.
2. Low cost insulators typically have low UV resilience and soon become brittle, reducing their effectiveness.
3. Short spaces between poles makes the fence more secure.
4. Earth loops limit the space that a fence can be lifted to create an access point.
5. Square tubing posts are more secure than other designs.
6. Install the keypad inside your house rather than in an outbuilding or garage. It reduces the risk in managing the system.
7. Install fences of 8 strand or more.
